the southern fried road trip: part 1

ughhhh hello again, lovely blog world. back to real life, whoo hoo. UGGHH!!! so last week was my actual spring break and my oh my, how i miss the good ol days of lazing around the house, jobless and car-less in my high school & junior high days. OKAY OKAY, i Badly wanted a car back then.... and maybe a job too! but having to get up for work last week has been the pits!! i shall now reminiscence on my blissful (well, despite the long hours of driving!) week.....

FRI
sooooo, we began our excursion driving friday evening for about 5 hours to alexandria, la! i drove this leg of the journey and yeah... thanks to really loud, happy music, i managed to stay awake towards the end of the drive. got our room and then headed out to find some late night food. turns out that a nearby drive through mcdonalds was the only place open in the area, due to the length of the line. we eventually got to eat and then later collapsed in our beds.

SAT
saturday morn, i decided that i wanted to drive past the huge church in the area {the pentecostals of alexandria} just to have a little look-see, ya know? so i found it on gina {gina is my garmin gps. yes, i named my gps.} and we drove around.... in this residential neighborhood.... and realized that this wasn't the church. maybe it was the pastor's house? i dunno. so yeah, we nixed that search.

stopped for a lovely lunch at subway and away we went to n'awlins!1st thing that struck me while driving around the city to find a parking spot: "My Goodness. so many people are gathered around the bar at 3pm!" scandalous!

also during our parking spot trek, i was able to observe the psycho yet sober natives of new orleans. like this silver dude:

we later saw guys painted in gold further down the street.

and who can forget the infamous guy happily playing his guitar against a building, of whom i noticed as we were driving off, failed to put on pants but thankfully didn't forget a piece of plastic
in the front. yeahhhhh....

SO! we miraculously found a spot and walked around the adorable french quarter. so cute!
below is the st. louis cathedral -- oldest operating cathedral in the united states, as in the first building was built in the 1700's. they expanded it later on but still, pretty awesome. and lovely.

we found a cute lil open air restaurant with an adorable table in the corner (which was reluctantly given to us.... i think he wanted to save it for a bigger party but OH WELL! it wasn't very busy there anyway).



location was great! food was ehhhhh.... it was okay. sadly, i preferred the restaurant chain, razzoo's, to real cajun cookin'. i blame only that specific restaurant though. however, the bread pudding was good.
