Will You Stand?

Senator Wendy Davis
So, I know this made national news but for those who do not know....

On June 25th, Texas Senator Wendy Davis filibustered to delay a bill that would mainly ban abortions after over 20 weeks of pregancy. Also, it would require the doctors who perform abotions to have access to local hospitals and would require clinics to meet the same standards as other surgical health-care facilities in the state.

Filibustering in TX is pretty interesting. Once the speaker begins, they are not allowed to sit down. Their chair is removed and they aren't allowed to lean on their desk either. Meals and bathroom breaks are prohibited {um, adult diapers, anyone?}. All the speaker can do is stand and talk for as long as possible {while members of their party asks questions to give their voices a break} in efforts to delay the vote for a bill.

Well, Sen. Davis did just that for 11 hours.

When I heard about this while it was in progress, I marveled. I absolutely do not support her disgusting cause. But it amazed me how someone could feel so strongly {and Let's Be Real- and be so politically aspirationally motivated} about a cause that they would sacrifice food and basic comforts to let their voice be heard.

Naturally, she got tons of attention for this. Pro-abortion protestors flooded the capitol building, chanting while she stood. People are begging her to run for governor and putting almost $1 million in her re-election fund, so far.

So, my question to you {and to myself} is: Will You Stand?

Will you stand up for what is right? I guarantee you, you won't get the support that Sen. Davis is getting. People will mock you and make fun and call you old-fashioned. They'll say you don't support reproductive "rights". They'll say that you hate people who aren't like you. I'm not saying we need to go around condemning people. In the world we live in, you don't have to look too far for a way to compromise what you believe in. It's the simple act of giving in to something that you know good and well is Not right.

very interesting article. Iniquity shall abound and the love of many will wax cold, may God help us to stand till the end. Amen
