Around this neck of the woods, today was the first day of school for a lot of kiddos. Awwwwww! I was reminded of this as I had to slow down through fifty bazillion about 5 different school zones during my morning commute.
**fact i learned today {on the RADIO, not by experience}: the fine for passing a school bus that has flashing lights can be as much as $1,250. ummmm, that's a lot of money for impatience.
I heard stories on the radio about people sending their kids off to school.... the dj who read the text he sent his new college freshman son today..... my coworker who panicked because her son thought he missed the school bus for his first day of middle school.... a teller at my bank telling me that today was her daughter's first day of kindergarten. It was all so sweet, really! I can't imagine how exciting and vulnerable it is to send your child off to another stage in life like that.
I was reminded of growing up with a mom who, although she was a single mom and working, always made sure to schedule herself to go into work later so that she could bring me to school for that first day. I think when I started eighth grade, I told her she didn't have to anymore. ;)
I also heard radio comments from teachers who were downright ECSTATIC to start the new year! I think teacher are so cool! I love the passion and enthusiasm of those who absolutely love their jobs. They're my heroes.
