stuff i learned from camp

last week i went to a family camp in arkansas. i only stayed for 2 days of the camp but i still gained so much! let me share some of my findings....

never underestimate the power of prayer before service. sure, i've known this before but i see again how it literally makes or breaks a service.

hairspray is your friend. i almost didn't pack it, assuming that the humidity couldn't be worse than dallas. boy, was i mistaken. it felt like i walked through a tub of honey when we arrived.... so thick that i didn't want to breathe in too hard and choke! :)

drive r e a l l y s l o w l y.... last time i went to camp was in 2007. this was also the last time i was stopped by a cop (and got off with a warning!!) this time, i drove at the speed limit or below pretty much all of the 3 1/2 hours home.

canada dry ginger ale is essential from here on out on every out of town trip. i always buy strawberry nutri-grain bars but now i have something extra to pick up before i go. no joke, i feel like this was one of the best purchases i made, considering i can easily drink it lukewarm. after all, the dorms have no refrigerators.

.... but for those in need of a refrigerator, the a/c worked surprisingly well! i had to snap a pic of her creativity.

having to endure camp food is a great method of weight loss! i kid, but this year, the food was kinda bad. pepperoni pizza with ONIONS along with a side of gross looking mac and cheese, anyone?

getting away from some "luxuries" is good for you. having to walk on dusty concrete floors, sleeping on narrow twin bed, showers in scary shower stalls, etc. you get the idea. a lil deprivation is always good for you.

- a few more pics -

i don't think he wanted the pic. BUT OH WELL! love this kid!

they are sooooo ready for the jello eating contest

and finally, elder martyn ballestero! he preached for my church on friday night after camp, also!

ok, i admit that i questioned if putting the a/c on here would be considered a luxury item but..... it is a necessity, i swear!!

i'm talking 3 showers a day humidity! it's NASTY over there. if there wasn't a/c in the bunks, i promise you, i would not be attending!

LOL!!! Ooooooo NO!!! I agree AC is definatley a luxury of necessity...I just ain't EVER been to a camp that had one and I live in AZ!!! And Brittney- YES...CAMP bathrooms are JUST SICK!!! LOL The shower stalls are sooooooooo gross!!! OMW- I hav vowed to never step foot in one barefooted!!! I have this story that I would tell you guys about a time that the shower was stopped up but it ain't EVEN appropriate to post on here with mixed company!!! RFLOL!!!

My solution to the shower/refrigeration/ac issue - stay in a hotel nearby! Humidity is something we don't have to worry about in California and I'm SO glad!!

i know!! i may need to relocate!! :)

1. A/C is necessary, not a luxury.
2. Camp food is always gross. ONIONS?!?!?! They're also known as Yuckions.
3. The showers out here at camp ALWAYS have spiders...so yeah. Hotels are the best.
4. Humidity is miserable.
5. Hairspray is from God
and....
6. YES JEN NEEDS TO RELOCATE!!!!! TO CALIFORNIA!!!!!

-Just my humble opinions. Heheh.
